Watch
the Seasons Change
At Paul Simon Chicago Job Corps
Seasons may come and
go, but one thing never changes - make kids love education first and your job as
a teacher will be easy. Don't teach English, Don't teach Math - teach
students. You will find that you won't have to teach at all - you will
facilitate learning.

It all started on Halloween... |
There was a door decorating contest..

We came in 2nd
(I think we were robbed!) |

Now, my goofy kids
decorate the door for
every holiday |
Spooky Business! |
Santa with his Elves (or, McDunn gets his
big head into every picture!) |

The BOT Tree |
When they are not decorating the door they
actually do class work |
The Stars of BOT-Ville |
The Driving Force of these projects was a young woman
named Domenica Morones. I still get e-mails from her from time to
time. Most teachers will agree that students come and go, but
occasionally, a truly gifted, talented, motivated one comes along.
For me, one of them was Domenica. She quickly set the
standard that other students tried to measure up to. I hope she is
always healthy and happy and that God truly blesses her throughout her
every endeavor. |

Ed Note:
Anyone who thinks that "at-risk students" are stupid or people to be pitied
is sadly mistaken. Clearly, at-risk students are just as likely to be as intelligent (or
more intelligent) as any (or every) other student. They have been marginalized with
a stigmatizing status because of events that have taken place in their home
life, their upbringing or their environment. As teachers, we must realize
not only that, but that previous attempts to teach them have failed.
It is up to us to determine new, innovative ways to reach them, to help reach
their full potential.
